Good morning. Welcome to the podcast. Today's episode delves into the critical issue of sleep deprivation, exploring its public health implications and long-term effects.
We'll start by defining sleep deprivation as the lack of sufficient sleep needed by an individual. The public health concerns are alarming, with sleep deprivation linked to increased risks of hypertension, obesity, depression, diabetes, immunological dysfunction, and Alzheimer's disease. Additionally, 20% of all serious car accidents are attributed to sleep deprivation, and it significantly impairs productivity.
Remarkably, a study has shown that we have lost 1.5 hours of sleep on average over the past 50 to 70 years. In the 1950s, individuals averaged eight hours of sleep, which has now decreased to 6.5 hours.
Next, we explore the long-term effects of sleep deprivation. Chronic lack of sleep is associated with hypertension due to its impact on hormone regulation and stress levels. This can lead to cardiovascular problems and stroke. Cognitive functions also suffer, affecting mental clarity, concentration, and decision-making abilities.
Sleep deprivation can impair equilibrium, reflexes, and coordinated movements, increasing the risk of accidents. It also impacts memory consolidation, immune system efficiency, and can contribute to weight gain and obesity due to hormonal imbalances.
Moreover, prolonged lack of sleep is linked to psychiatric disorders such as confusion, suspiciousness, and mental trauma, which may be misinterpreted as conditions like schizophrenia.
In conclusion, sleep is a vital component of overall health, essential for preventing numerous medical conditions. Ensuring adequate sleep is paramount for promoting well-being.

In this episode, we delve into the serious medical condition known as EVALI, which stands for e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury. Initially reported in 2012, EVALI saw a significant outbreak in the United States during the summer of 2019, leading to numerous hospitalizations and even fatalities. We explore the primary symptoms, including shortness of breath, cough, and chest pain, and discuss how these were linked to the use of vaping products within the previous three months. The CDC recorded 2,807 cases and 68 deaths attributed to EVALI, though cases have significantly decreased since their peak in 2019.Our discussion highlights the main risk factors, particularly focusing on the use of THC-containing vaping devices and products sourced from informal markets. We also examine the role of vitamin E acetate, a synthetic form of vitamin E found in THC vaping products, which has been identified as a key culprit in lung damage.Additionally, we cover the challenges in diagnosing EVALI, as there are no specific diagnostic tests available. Instead, doctors rely on patient history and imaging tests like chest X-rays or CT scans. Finally, we touch on the CDC's recommendations for avoiding vaping products from black markets and the main treatment options available, including corticosteroids, supplemental oxygen, and mechanical ventilation.Join us as we uncover the hidden risks of vaping and discuss the importance of using FDA-approved products to safeguard your health.

Good morning. Welcome to my podcast. Today we are discussing how the Indian foreign policy can be affected due to the ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh.Indian foreign policy has had a massive setback caused by the civic unrest and the ongoing violence in Bangladesh. It is one of the biggest diplomatic challenges PM Narendra Modi and the NDA government faces. The ousted Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina maintains a good relationship with the Indian government. When it comes to the relationship with other neighbouring countries, our country has to overcome a number of challenges. To be more precise, Myanmar remains caught in the vortex of a military rule. The Maldives recently witnessed a change in leadership that showed an anti-Indian policy. The current president, Mohammad Moissou, announced a pro-China policy and in the past he visited China, signing a number of agreements. Also, he has requested the Indian government to withdraw the military personnel from Maldives.Up north, Nepal has witnessed a return of leadership who are more inclined to China and their interests to the west. Despite the deepening economic crisis, Pakistan has been making efforts to cause troubles in Kashmir.Returning to Bangladesh and their unrest, the Indian government called an all-party meeting in which the Bangladesh crisis has been discussed further. As per the Indian government and the external affairs minister S. Deshchanga, the Indian government has been closely watching the situation in Bangladesh. The priority should be the evacuation of Indian personnel and diplomats from Bangladesh. Also, India has to be vigilant, especially along the 4,000 kilometers of border it shares with Bangladesh where the unrest is ongoing.
